Hugh Jackman recently talked to Variety about why he chose to return to the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3 after previously stating that 2017’s Logan would be his final time playing the character.

Apparently, it was a screening of 2016’s Deadpool that Jackman watched prior to filming Logan that made the actor realize the potential of a Wolverine/Deadpool crossover.
“I went to a screening of Deadpool,” Jackman said. “I was 20 minutes in, and I was like, ‘Ah, damn it!’ All I kept seeing in my head was 48 Hrs. with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. So it’s been brewing for a long time. It just took me longer to get here.”
That being said, it wasn’t until August that Jackman fully committed to coming back as Wolverine, which is when he informed Ryan Reynolds of the decision.
“Oh my God, I’m thrilled,” Reynolds said of Jackman’s return. “It’s like old home week. To get to be on set with one of my closest friends each and every day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side, that’s beyond our wildest dreams.”

Deadpool 3 is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick from a previous draft by Bob’s Burgers duo Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously assured fans that it will remain an R-rated film — just like the first two movies, which would make it the studio’s first movie with the said mature rating. The film is currently set to release on November 8, 2024.
