James Gunn on DCU Deathstroke, Young Justice, & Studio Interference

In a variety of posts and replies across Twitter and Mastodon, DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn revealed a plethora of details about the DC Universe he’s crafting.

When asked about the possibility of a new DC logo in future films, Gunn replied, “It will be something different but that’s down the line a bit.

One fan inquired about ensuring audio commentary tracks for films are included with physical releases going forward Gunn assured them, saying, “I’ll work on this.

Another fan asked about whether or not DC Comics will feature greater coordination with the films, especially in regards to publishing and reprinting stories that may be relevant to upcoming films. Gunn stated, “I am working on this with my friend Jim Lee.

When the topic of studio interference came up, Gunn cleared the air. “The position is different than it was with Zack, etc. Peter & I are the heads of DC Studios. The only studio interference would be from us! ?

Finally, Gunn made two tweets that are likely to get DC fans excited. The first reply confirms that he and fellow Co-CEO Peter Safran are taking inspiration from beloved animated DC series like Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice.

The second tweet is a reply to a fan who asked if Gunn had any plans to bring Deathstroke/Slade Wilson, the intense supervillain and assassin, into the DCU. Gunn’s response, a coy “Could be…,” hints that the popular antagonist likely has a place in his plans.

The next DCU release will be Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which releases on March 17, 2023. It will be followed by The Flash, starring the troubled Ezra Miller, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
