Alien Legion Movie in the Works From Deadpool Director

Warner Bros. Discovery has picked up the rights to the sci-fi comic Alien Legion, and will adapt the story into a film with Deadpool director Tim Miller attached.

The news comes via a new report from THR, which notes that the film will be produced by Don Murphy and Susan Montford. Currently, no writers or other casting information was made available.

Miller’s next film is set to be the revenge thriller Best Served Cold. Miller also directed the 2019 film Terminator: Dark Fate, and was a producer on both Sonic the Hedgehog films, and will also serve as a producer on the upcoming third film in the series as well.

What is Alien Legion about?

Originally released in 1983 under Epic Comics (an imprint of Marvel Comics), Alien Legion was created by Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco, and tells the story of the Force Nomad, a military unit similar to the French Foreign Legion. The unit was led by Sarigar, a soldier whose lower half was serpentine, and also featured various other alien life within its ranks.

Prior to this most recent announcement, THR notes that Hollywood has been trying to adapt the Alien Legion comics for some time. In the early 2000s, Angry Films attempted to develop a film based on the comics, but couldn’t get a big enough budget to do so.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also attempted to establish the property at Disney in the 2000s, and even had scripts for the project written by David Benioff, Derek Haas, and Michael Brandt, but the rights reverted back to Potts over time.
