What is Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó about?
Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó is produced and directed by Wang, with Sam Davis and Malcolm Pullinger serving as producers. Filmed during the pandemic, the multigenerational story centers around Wang’s titular grandmothers. The short will be part of Disney Branded Television’s upcoming relaunch of the People & Place documentary short film series, which originally premiered from the early ’50s to the ’60s.
“This multigenerational story follows this grandma super team that dances, stretches and farts their sorrows away,” reads the synopsis. “It will feature a mix of up-and-coming and established filmmakers telling the real-life stories of extraordinary people and places from around the globe that embody the Disney ethos.”
The creative team also includes executive producer Joanna Natasegara and Joyce N. Ho, who handled title, subtitle, and end credits’ design as well as animation.
