Tim Burton is directing a reimagined version of 1958’s Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.
Per Deadline, Burton is attached to direct a “reimagined telling” of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. The movie is being written by Gillian Flynn, known for writing 2014’s Gone Girl, 2018’s Sharp Objects, 2018’s Widows, and 2020’s Utopia.
Burton is producing the movie with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian serves as an executive producer.
What was the original Attack of the 50 Foot Woman about?
Released in May 1958, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman starred Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers. The movie was directed by Nathan Hertz and written by Mark Hanna.
“Turned into a giantess by an alien, a woman (Allison Hayes) finds her husband (William Hudson) in a bar with a floozy (Yvette Vickers),” the synopsis reads.
A sequel to Attack of the 50 Foot Woman was discussed after the movie was released; however, it never came to fruition. HBO made a Attack of the 50 Foot Woman remake in 1993, which was directed by Christopher Guest and starred Daryl Hannah and Daniel Baldwin.
The original film also inspired the character of Ginormica, voiced by Reese Witherspoon, in 2009’s Monsters vs. Aliens.
Further details about Burton’s Attack of the 50 Foot Woman are not available at this time. A release date has not yet been announced.
Burton, meanwhile, recently finished filming the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel with Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder. The movie, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, hits United States theaters on September 6, 2024.
Burton is also known for directing movies such as 1989’s Batman, 1990’s Edward Scissorhands, 1992’s Batman Returns, 1996’s Mars Attacks!, 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 2007’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, 2014’s Big Eyes, and more. His most recently released film was 2019’s Dumbo remake.
