Jared Padalecki, who has been the face of The CW for decades, has some words about the network’s “cheap” programming. The actor’s comments came after Walker got canceled after only four seasons

Padalecki, at an early age, landed one of his earlier projects on the said network by playing Dean Forester in Gilmore Girls until 2005. He then went on to star in the long-running Supernatural. Years after the hit series concluded in 2020, the actor became an executive producer of Walker, a series he also starred in. However, The CW opted to cancel the crime drama, with Padalecki sharing the disappointing news on his Instagram account.

What did Jared Padalecki say about The CW’s ‘cheap’ programming?

It seems like Padalecki, who had played Cordell Walker since the first season, hasn’t gotten over the show’s sudden cancellation. Walker is a reboot of the long-running television series Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001). It follows the titular lead as he returns to his Austin home after being undercover. However, he will soon discover that many things have changed in the two years since his absence.

“I feel like The CW that I was a part of last year is not The CW that I was a part of under [former chairman and CEO] Mark Pedowitz for that entire, almost 20-year stretch. They’re just changing the network around, where it’s not really going to be a TV network as much as it’s going to be, ‘Here’s something fun for an hour that you’ll never watch again, but hopefully you watch it. And it’s cheap!’ And I hate to say that, but I’m just being honest. I mean, fuck it. They can’t fire me again. I’m just being brutally honest. I think it felt to me like they were looking for really easy, cheap content that they could fill up time with,” Padalecki told Variety.

He added, “I kind of said this at the end of “Supernatural”: I wasn’t interested in acting [again], per se. I do love producing. I love the production aspect, and I love the problem-solving that comes with it. So there are a few things that my wife and I are in the process of developing that I would love to produce and act in. But beyond that, I still feel like I haven’t grieved the loss of “Walker,” so I don’t know yet if I trust my feelings.”

Walker also starred Molly Hagan, Keegan Allen, Coby Bell, Mitch Pileggi, Odette Annable, and more.
