The new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie has a big casting update.
Earlier this year, it was announced that a new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie will be released in July 2025. It will be the fourth official film in the horror franchise and it has been confirmed that Freddie Prinze Jr. will reprise his role as Ray Bronson in the forthcoming sequel.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is married to Prinze Jr., also starred Helen Shivers in the franchise. While there were rumors that she also might be returning for the new movie, Gellar confirmed to PEOPLE that her character is staying “dead.”
She did, however, note that she has an unofficial, unseen role in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie.
“My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,” she said. “So I’m always the one telling her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,’ so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.”
Gellar added, “Jen’s put together such an amazing cast, and I’m so happy and excited for all of them. will be there with moral support behind the camera.”
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie adds Billy Campbell to the cast
Along with Prinze Jr., the cast of Robinson’s movie includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.
Per Deadline, Billy Campbell has now also officially joined the cast. Campbell is known for playing Cliff Secord in 1991’s The Rocketeer and Jordan Collier in The 4400. His filmography also includes 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula, 1993’s Gettysburg, 2008’s Ghost Town, and more.
Deadline’s article also mentions that Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks to return for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie, which will be released in United States theaters on July 18, 2025.
