More than two decades after their iconic kiss at the 2003 Academy Awards, Halle Berry re-enacted her kiss with Adrien Brody on the red carpet of the 2025 Oscars.
In a video captured by Access Hollywood on TikTok, Berry snuck up on Brody while he was doing an interview. Berry apologized to Brody’s partner Georgina Chapman, and then quickly grabbed Brody and kissed him, recreating their iconic moment from 2003.
In a conversation on the moment backstage with Variety, Berry said she had to “pay him back,” and that this was one of the first times she had seen him on a red carpet somewhere.
“That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well. To be a part of his moment… tonight I had to pay him back,” Berry said. “I’ve seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet somewhere. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”
The pair’s kiss harkens back to their infamous moment in 2003. Berry was presenting the award for Best Actor at the 2003 Oscars, and after Brody won for his role in The Pianist, Berry shocked everyone, Brody included, by grabbing him and giving him a kiss, joking that the moment wasn’t “in the gift bag” afterward.
