Desperate Housewives Reboot With Kerry Washington Announced, Unveils Title & Details

The award-winning Desperate Housewives is heading back to Wisteria Lane. The hit ABC mystery comedy-drama series is confirmed to be getting the reboot treatment at Onyx Collective.

Desperate Housewives first aired on ABC in 2004 and ended its eight-season run on the network in 2012, spanning a total of 180 episodes. Told from the perspective of a deceased young woman, the original series — set in the fictional Wisteria Lane street — follows a group of women as they unravel sinister secrets in the wake of their neighbor Mary Alice Young’s (Brenda Strong) unexpected death.

The series starred Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp, and Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis. Nicollette Sheridan also starred in the show’s first five seasons as Edie Britt.

What to expect in the Desperate Housewives reboot?

The Desperate Housewives reimagining will be called Wisteria Lane, which comes from Kerry Washington‘s Simpson Street and 20th Television. The announcement comes after the series celebrated its 20th anniversary in October of last year.

Per Deadline’s report, Wisteria Lane — written by The Flight Attendant’s Natalie Chaidez — is “described as a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery in the vein of Desperate Housewives, set among a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul de sac called “Wisteria Lane.” On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white-picket fences and smiling Insta posts are SECRETS.”

Chaidez will also executive produce the project alongside Washington, Pilar Savone, and  Stacey Sher.

The creator behind the hit mystery dramedy, Marc Cherry, previously shared his idea about the possible Desperate Housewives reboot. In an interview with People, the series creator said: “I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street. I know that street like the back of my hand.”
