David Jonsson has shared a positive update regarding Alien: Romulus 2.
Alien: Romulus was released in United States theaters in August 2024. Set between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens, the film is directed by Fede Álvarez and sees Jonsson play an android named Andy, while Cailee Spaeny stars as Marie Raines “Rain” Carradine.
Alien: Romulus was a hit at the box office, bringing in approximately $350.9 million. Following the movie’s release, Álvarez expressed interest in continuing the story in a sequel.
Last month, Álvarez said on an episode of the Marea Nocturna podcast, via Fangoria, that pre-production on Alien: Romulus 2 is underway and that they were aiming to begin filming in the fall. No other details were given at the time.
What did David Jonsson say about Alien: Romulus 2?
Per Post Cred Pod, Jonsson has now confirmed that Alien: Romulus 2 is looking to start filming in the very near future.
“I can’t share [very much], but I will say I don’t think you’re far off — your sources have something to them,” he said when asked if it was true that the movie would begin production by the end of the year.
Plot details for Alien: Romulus 2 remain under wraps at this time. The movie does not yet have a release date.
The synopsis for the first Alien: Romulus movie reads, “Space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life-form in the universe while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.” The cast also includes Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
In addition to Álvarez’s movies, Noah Hawley has created an Alien show, titled Alien: Earth, that will premiere on FX and FX on Hulu on August 12, 2025. That series serves as a prequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien and stars Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, and more.
