Sharon Stone, the original star of Basic Instinct (1992), has recently shared her thoughts on the planned reboot. The actress also appeared in the 2006 sequel to the cult erotic thriller, but the follow-up was poorly received by both critics and audiences. Stone remains cautious and wary about the prospect of another sequel or spinoff.

Sharon Stone shares her views on upcoming Basic Instinct reboot

Although critics did not rank Basic Instinct among the best films of its time, it left a major impact and dominated the box office.

Over the years, audiences turned it into a cult classic, keeping its popularity alive, and many now view it as a groundbreaking trailblazer in the erotic thriller genre.

This was not the case with the 2006 sequel, which starred Sharon Stone but not Michael Douglas. The film received extremely negative reviews, with some critics calling it “so bad it’s good,” and ultimately it also underperformed badly at the box office.

With a new reboot on the way, Stone does not appear particularly enthusiastic, largely because of how poorly the 2006 film fared. She said during an interview on NBC’s Today:

“If it goes the way the one that I was in, I would just say, I don’t know why you’d do it. I mean, go ahead.” She added, “Good f***ing luck.”

Joe Eszterhas, who wrote the original film, will return as writer for the planned reboot. Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists and Scott Stuber have secured the rights, and the project is now in early development while assembling its creative team.

This means the reboot will most likely release on Amazon Prime Video, though it will be some time before it officially moves into production and eventually reaches audiences, as casting, direction, and other key details still remain unconfirmed.

Stay tuned for more updates.
