Steve Martin is hitting pause on his comedy tour after testing positive for COVID-19. The legendary comedian and actor canceled two back-to-back shows with his longtime collaborator and Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short.

On September 19, Steve Martin shared on Instagram that he had contracted COVID-19, forcing him to pull out of two Virginia performances scheduled as part of his “Dukes of Funnytown” tour. The canceled shows included a stop at Virginia Beach’s The Dome on September 19 and another at Richmond’s Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront on September 20.
“Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have come down with COVID. I can’t possibly do the shows that you deserve. So Marty and I must cancel tonight & tomorrow. But we will return under better circumstances,” Martin wrote, alongside a photo of a sad-looking dog in Mickey Mouse ears. In a follow-up post, the comedian shared a picture of his positive COVID-19 test, humorously noting in the caption, “Hey! No flu!”
Shortly after his announcement, Martin’s official website confirmed the cancellations, citing “an abundance of caution.” The post assured fans that ticket refunds would be available and apologized for the sudden change in schedule.
Despite the setback, Martin and Short’s comedy tour is far from over. The next scheduled stop is at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida, on October 4. The pair has more than 30 shows lined up across the U.S., running through April 2026.
While touring, the comedy legends are also keeping busy on screen. Both recently returned for season five of Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building. The pair’s friendship and creative partnership go back decades, beginning with the cult classic Three Amigos (1986).
For fans in Virginia, Martin’s COVID-19 diagnosis means a temporary disappointment. But given his note promising a return “under better circumstances,” it seems likely that he and Short will make their way back once he’s recovered.
