How I Met Your Mother alum Cristin Milioti has opened up about the possibility of returning for The Penguin Season 2, revealing the current status of the HBO show. For her incredible performance as Sofia Falcone in Season 1, Milioti won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress, which was one of the multiple awards that the show scored at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

What did Cristin Milioti say about The Penguin Season 2 and The Batman 2?

When asked about the status of The Penguin Season 2 while speaking with Deadline, Milioti admitted that there’s no official word about it, but she’s hoping to have the chance to reprise her acclaimed role.

“Yeah, there’s no official word on anything,” Milioti said. “And I would love nothing more, truly.”

Spider-Man 3 star Topher Grace, with whom Miliot is co-starring in the upcoming horror thriller Buddy, chimed in on the topic, revealing that he is in disbelief that Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed Season 2 yet.

Grace added, “Whoever’s in charge of making that decision, what are you doing? This is the greatest thing I have ever seen on [television]. We’ve got to have a season two.”

In addition, despite the previous rumor about her potential involvement in The Batman: Part II, Milioti confirmed that she’s “definitively not in the film, which is a bummer.”

While Season 2 hasn’t officially received a renewal order, Colin Farrell‘s Oz Cobb/The Penguin will next be seen in Reeves’ highly anticipated The Batman sequel, which will debut on October 1, 2027. In a previous interview, the acclaimed actor revealed that he had already read Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin’s script for the Robert Pattinson-led movie.

“I had so many thoughts and feelings to share with Matt about the script,” Farrell said. “I really do think it’s a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant, and Robert has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.”

Season 1 also starred Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Zegen, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Francois Chau, Carmen Ejogo, David H. Holmes, and more. The series was written and executive produced by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, with Reeves also serving as an executive producer. Since its debut, the show has maintained its Certified Fresh rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 211 reviews.
