Daniel Radcliffe has reflected on his relationship with the Harry Potter films years after leading the franchise. Speaking recently, the actor explained why he would likely steer his child toward a different version of the Wizarding World rather than revisiting his own performances as the boy who lived.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Daniel Radcliffe said he would likely show his child HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series rather than the original film franchise in which he starred. He stated, “I’ll probably show my kid that, so that he doesn’t have to watch me.” He added, “I think that’ll be more fun. I would probably enjoy it more.”
Radcliffe explained that he does not often revisit the Harry Potter films. He said the last time he watched them in full was at their premieres. These included events in London and the United States. He added that he sometimes sees brief clips while flipping through television channels. However, he does not sit down to rewatch the movies.
Addressing why he avoids revisiting his past performances, Radcliffe said, “I hate watching myself, generally.” He added that he has not watched much of his recent work, including television and theater projects, aside from a limited number of exceptions. He emphasized that this reluctance is not specific to Harry Potter but applies broadly to his performances.
Reflecting on how his perspective has changed over time, Radcliffe said, “I would like to watch the earlier films more because I’m so much further away from them.” He explained that when he was 18 or 19, he felt embarrassed watching his 10 or 11-year-old self on screen. He added that now he would likely view his younger self with more kindness but might feel more embarrassed by his late teenage performances.
The HBO series is based on the books by J. K. Rowling, stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, and is scheduled to premiere in early 2027 with an eight-episode first season.
