Director Paul Feig has shared a new update on the progress of The Housemaid 2. The filmmaker confirmed when production on the Sydney Sweeney thriller sequel is expected to begin. His comments provide one of the clearest timelines yet for the next installment of the series.

Director Paul Feig shared a filming update for The Housemaid 2 while speaking to Deadline on the Oscars red carpet. He confirmed that the script has been completed and is currently undergoing revisions. Feig told Deadline that he is rewriting the script and said, “we start shooting in the fall.”
The sequel adapts The Housemaid’s Secret, the second novel in Freida McFadden’s book series. The story follows housemaid Millie Calloway as she uncovers a deadly scheme planned by her employer Wendy Garrick. Garrick manipulates events in an attempt to frame Millie for murder.
Feig also confirmed returning cast members connected to the sequel. He said that Sydney Sweeney will reprise her role as Millie Calloway. The director also noted that Italian actor Michele Morrone, who appeared in his film Another Simple Favor, will return.
The first The Housemaid film performed strongly at the global box office. Released by Lionsgate during the Christmas period, it grossed close to $395 million worldwide. The sequel continues the adaptation of Freida McFadden’s thriller series.
During the conversation, Feig also spoke about Bridesmaids and addressed criticism of Reminders of Him. He wrote in response to a review, “Dude, this is a really out of touch review. Are you in the target audience?” If production begins in the fall as planned, the sequel could potentially release in late 2027 at the earliest.
Feig also defended the film’s reception and audience reaction. He wrote, “This movie is made for romance fans and I’m predicting it’s going to do very well.” He also described the premiere audience response, writing, “Huge cheers when the two leads first kissed.” The project remains in development as Feig continues rewriting the script before production begins later this year.
