The upcoming film Evil Dead Burn has received a positive box office forecast, bringing good news to the popular supernatural horror franchise. Directed and co-written by Sébastien Vaniček, who is known for the 2023 French film Infested that released on Shudder, this sixth installment in the series is yet another foray into the dangers of using the Book of the Dead. The trailer for the Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema production sees a recent widow attempting to find solace after the death of her husband by recuperating with her family at a secluded home, but some of her in-laws unfortunately discover the book and many of them begin transforming into Deadites. Evil Dead Burn is set to arrive in theaters on July 10, 2026.
Evil Dead Burn looks to be the next horror box office success
Evil Dead Burn is predicted to earn $30 million to $40 million in its domestic opening weekend from July 10 to July 12. This is a notable increase from an earlier projection that had the film only bringing in somewhere between $21 million and $28 million.
This new prediction comes from a June 26 forecast from BoxOffice Pro, which believes that the film will have stronger opener than 2023’s Evil Dead Rise that had a $24.5 million domestic start. The report notes that audiences this year have rallied behind a handful of horror flicks that have seen the debut of new directors, including Markiplier’s Iron Lung, Curry Barker’s Obsession, and Kane Parsons’ Backrooms. While Evil Dead Burn won’t be Vaniček’s first feature film, it comes close. Further, it compares the film’s potential success to 2024’s Alien: Romulus that had a $42 million domestic start and 2025’s Weapons that had a similar $43.5 million domestic opener.
The earlier $21 million to $28 million projection is based on an prediction from BoxOfficeTheory at the beginning of June, and that hasn’t changed given its latest June 26 report. Based on these lower numbers, the site still believes the film will earn a domestic total of $69 million, or in the higher end of the range between $45 million and $75 million. Compared to other films in the franchise, this would put Evil Dead Burn on track to meet the $67 million domestic haul of Evil Dead Rise and the $54 million of 2013’s Evil Dead.
It’s not yet been disclosed what the budget for Evil Dead Burn is; however, it’s expected to be as low as Evil Dead Rise’s production cost of $19 million on the higher end. If this holds for Evil Dead Burn, it would mean that the film will only need to cross the estimated $50 million mark to make a profit, if we follow the general rule that movies have to make 2.5 times its budget to be profitable. With these current box office predictions, the movie is expected to be a box office success within the first few weeks of its debut.
Evil Dead Burn will not have too many direct competitors as a horror film at the box office in July, though the expectedly immense size of several blockbusters will make them difficult to ignore. The live-action Moana, which arrives on the same day (July 10), is projected to take home somewhere between $70 million and $89 million in its domestic opener. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey that arrives a week later (July 18) has an even larger projection of a $97 million to $132 million domestic start.
The movie was almost rated NC-17 due to a particularly violent scene in the film, but Vaniček explained that it was cut so that it could be rated R instead. The movie’s cast includes Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, and Erroll Shand.
