HBO Max‘s upcoming Harry Potter TV show has sparked controversy ahead of its release. A recent casting call has divided longtime Harry Potter fans.
What reveal is causing controversy for the Harry Potter TV show?
The makers of the upcoming Harry Potter TV show recently shared a casting call looking for child actors to play Ginny Weasley in Season 2. Casting director Lucy Bevan shared the casting call online with all the necessary requirements for the character.
However, what drew the most attention was the first look at the new Hogwarts logo, featured at the bottom of the casting call.
Some fans took to X and expressed their reactions while calling the new Hogwarts crest a departure from the source material. Sharing their distaste, @egemenuregen wrote, “It’s just awful. New Hogwarts logo, new Hogwarts robes… They are all horrible. You can’t even tell which robe represents which Hogwarts house.”
Another fan questioned the creators’ intention of making a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books. @salembookworm wrote, “They could have just used the crest from the books. Didn’t they promise us the show would be more faithful than the movies?” @HogwartExpress1 simply called the new logo “Just another awful design.”
However, some fans don’t have much of an issue with the overhaul. @SiriusBrown07 wrote, “im gonna get this as a tattoo” while hailing the new Hogwarts crest. @bets4joham wrote, “I already love it.”
The Harry Potter TV series will feature Dominic McLaughlin in the titular role alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
Francesca Gardiner is serving as the showrunner. Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes and serve as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, David Heyman, and J.K. Rowling.
HBO Max’s Harry Potter TV show will release in 2027.
