Robert Downey Jr. and Halle Berry’s iconic murder mystery is coming to Netflix. Fans will get to watch it on the streaming giant next month.
Gothika to stream on Netflix next month
According to What’s on Netflix, Gothika arrives on Netflix September 1, 2026. The psychological horror movie originally released back in 2003. Mathieu Kassovitz directed the movie from Sebastian Gutierrez’s script.
Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis produced it, while Warner Bros. and Dark Castle Entertainment also co-produced the murder mystery. The movie stars Halle Berry and Robert Downey Jr. prominently.
Penelope Cruz, John Carroll Lynch, Bernard Hill, and Charles S. Dutton also appear. Berry plays psychiatrist Dr. Miranda Grey in the movie. She suddenly wakes up inside the hospital where she works. However, she is now being treated as a patient.
Miranda is accused of murdering her own husband. She struggles to prove that she is innocent. Things become stranger when she starts seeing a ghost. The ghost leads Miranda toward a disturbing hidden secret.
She eventually uncovers dark truths about her husband. Another killer also becomes connected to the mystery. Downey Jr. plays Miranda’s colleague, Dr. Pete Graham. Cruz plays Chloe Sava, another hospital patient. Their characters become important as Miranda investigates everything.
Gothika mixes psychological horror, mystery, and thriller elements. It earned around 141 million worldwide after release. Critics were much harsher toward the movie overall. However, Stephanie Archer of Film Inquiry wrote, “While Gothika may not have stood the test of time, or even present the most plausible horror narrative, it delivers an eerie watch that fans of the genre can enjoy.”
Antonia Quirke of the London Evening Standard wrote, “The most interesting thing about this clunky, foolish horror flick – in which everybody but the audience is constantly caught off-guard – is Berry’s scrappy wig.”
Gothika currently holds a 15% critics score, and fans scored it slightly higher at 45% on Rotten Tomatoes. Halle Berry and Robert Downey Jr.’s Gothika begins streaming on Netflix September 1, giving fans a chance to revisit the murder mystery.
