Tom Hanks is joining a new Warner Bros. movie, which might help him land another Oscar after Forrest Gump. Hanks has secured two Academy Awards throughout his acting and filmmaking career, and now he is in discussions with Warner Bros. about a new film based on a bestselling novel.
Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly moving towards securing the rights to Allen Levi’s bestseller Theo of Golden. Per Deadline, the deal is finalized, and Tom Hanks will reportedly play the role of the titular lead for the film.
Tom Hanks has earned two Oscars as Best Actor. He won his first Academy Award on March 21, 1994, for Philadelphia, and in the next year itself, at the 67th Academy Awards, he bagged the Oscar for Forrest Gump.
The book by Levi was self-published in 2023. Later, Atria Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, re-published it in October 2025, and it went on to become a New York Times Bestseller. The book attained its fame largely through readers’ recommendations. Although this was Levi’s first novel, the book earned him huge success at the age of 68.
What Allen Levi’s Theo of Golden is about
The book narrates the story of Theo, an elderly, mysterious man who arrived in a town called Golden unexpectedly. Theo begins an anonymous and generous campaign in the town.
He purchases local pencil portraits off a coffee shop wall and then returns them to the local residents of Golden. This leads Theo to meet the townspeople and learn about their lives as he builds a connection with the community.
The book has been translated and published in 43 languages. Over 3.5 million copies of Theo of Golden have been sold worldwide. It has received a rating of 4.44 out of 5 on Goodreads. A part of the preview of the book, per Goodreads, reads,

The upcoming film will be produced by Tom Hanks along with Gil Netter and Gary Goetzman. Allen Levi will be reportedly joining in as an executive producer. Warner Bros.’ literary affairs executive Ian Dalrymple pitched the idea of adapting Levi’s novel into a film.
