A24 has released the character posters for its upcoming horror film Opus, starring award-winning actor John Malkovich as a celebrity cult leader. Scheduled for a theatrical release on March 14, 2024, the upcoming film marks the independent company’s first horror feature for 2025.
Opus is written and directed by Mark Anthony Green. In addition to Malkovich (best known for his roles in Dangerous Liaisons, Bird Box, and more), the film also stars The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, Yellowjackets’ Juliette Lewis, The White Lotus’s Murray Bartlett, Power Book II: Ghost’s Stephanie Suganami, Beef’s Young Mazino, Prey’s Amber Midthunder, and Veep’s Tony Hale.

What is Opus about?
Opus will revolve around an iconic pop star’s highly anticipated return after disappearing for decades from the public eye. An event described as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience,” ambitious young writer Ariel Ecton (played by Edebiri) — who’s in search of a perfect story — gets an invitation to the isolated compound of Alfred Moretti (played by Malkovich). She will soon find out what’s really behind Alfred’s return while surrounded by journalists and the celebrity’s cult of followers.
“A young writer is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan,” the synopsis for Opus reads.
Opus is only an addition to A24’s growing collection of horror features. Other titles that were produced under the said company include Under The Skin, The Witch, Green Room, Hereditary, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, It Comes at Night, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the X trilogy, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Talk to Me, and I Saw the TV Glow, among others.
Opus hits theaters on March 14.
