Who knew Lord Voldemort could tickle our funny bones? Ralph Fiennes offers some hilarious advice to the actor who’ll take on the mantle of the Dark Lord in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series.
Fiennes famously played Voldemort in four Harry Potter movies, starting in the 2005 installment Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He went on to appear in three other films, including 2007’s Order of the Phoenix, 2010’s Deathly Hallows – Part 1, and 2011’s Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
What is Ralph Fiennes’ advice for Harry Potter TV’s next Voldemort?
While promoting his latest project 28 Years Later, Fiennes was asked what advice he could offer to whoever steps into the role of the next Voldemort. But the actor had some practical guide in mind.
“Make sure you can handle the long flowing robes and don’t trip over them. Practice your long flowing robe walk,” the actor told Entertainment Tonight. “Also, I wore tights. “Initially, they were one piece with a gusset, which kept getting lower and lower during the shooting day and became uncomfortable. So then I said I wanted individual tights like a garter belt. I enjoyed teasing the stunt guys by lifting up my robes and showing them my garter belt.”
Other actors who played the iconic villain in different stages of his life include Richard Bremmer (Sorcerer’s Stone), Christian Coulson (Chamber of Secrets), Frank Dillane (Half-Blood Prince), and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin (Half-Blood Prince), with Ian Hart serving as the voice and motion capture of Voldemort in the first Harry Potter movie.
As of now, no actor has been officially cast as Voldemort, although Fiennes has expressed interest in seeing Cillian Murphy take on the role. In addition to 28 Years Later, Fiennes is also set to portray Panem’s ruthless dictator President Snow in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
28 Years Later hits United States theaters on June 20, 2025. Meanwhile, HBO’s Harry Potter series is expected to arrive in late 2026.
