Netflix is rebooting another classic sci-fi television show.
In recent years, Netflix has released three seasons of Lost in Space, a reboot of the beloved sci-fi series of the same name from the 1960s. The streaming service is also now working on a reboot of Little House on the Prairie, which is currently in production.
What 70s sci-fi show is Netflix rebooting?
Now, per Deadline, it has been revealed that Netflix is working on a new Land of the Lost show.
Land of the Lost was originally a children’s series that aired on NBC from a974 to 1976. It starred Spencer Milligan as Rick, Kathy Coleman as Holly Marshall, Wesley Eure as Will Marshall, Philip Paley as Cha-Ka, and Ron Harper as Uncle Jack Marshall.
While it only ran for three seasons, Land of the Lost became a cultural touchstone in the United States. There was a television series remake that premiered on ABC in 1991, along with a Land of the Lost Movie that was released in 2009. That film starred Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel, Jorma Taccone, Matt Lauer, and Leonard Nimoy.
Sid Krofft, Marty Krofft, and Deanna Krofft Pope will produce the new show for Netflix, which is said to be in “very early stages.” No casting has yet been announced as the studio is currently searching for a writer to tackle the project.
“Land of the Lost centers on a father, Rick, and his two children who accidentally go through a portal and find themselves trapped in a world inhabited by dinosaurs, including a Tyrannosaurus rex they nickname Grumpy; primate-like people named Pakuni, one of whom, Cha-Ka, they befriend; and reptilian humanoids called Sleestak,” Deadline’s article notes.
Further details remain under wraps at this time. A premiere date has not yet been set.
The original Land of the Lost show, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Prime Video and The Roku Channel, among other platforms, while the 2009 movie can be viewed on Max.
