With recently released KPop Demon Hunters raking in massive viewership numbers on Netflix, the animated movie could soon receive an official word regarding a potential Part 2. The movie, helmed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025, and has since garnered an emphatic response from the audience, as evidenced by its ever-growing viewership statistics.
KPop Demon Hunters’ promising Netflix viewership numbers could help fast-track sequel
As per the current dynamics, KPop Demon Hunters is on track to become the most-watched original animated film in Netflix’s history.
According to What’s on Netflix, the movie has already secured 80.3 million views on the streaming platform and should surpass the likes of Leo and The Sea Beast in the viewership department.
Despite the success of KPop Demon Hunters, neither Netflix nor Sony Pictures Animation has shared any update on a potential part 2 of the movie. However, Maggie Kang has expressed interest in making a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, stating in a recent interview that she and the creators have explored the leading characters in a way to “set up so much for potential backstory.”
Kang provided yet another hint for KPop Demon Hunters 2 by adding, “Obviously, there’s a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes.”
KPop Demon Hunters’ impressive viewership count also has a lot to do with the movie’s soundtrack, which recently ranked second on the Billboard 200 albums list. Moreover, the song “Golden” turned out to be the best-performing single from the album, reaching the summit of both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts.
Additionally, songs “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” seem to have resonated with the viewers, reaching the third and sixth positions on the Billboard Global 200, respectively. (via The Express Tribune)
