An Easter egg featured in Superman teases some exciting DCU casting.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is now playing in United States theaters. The DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
What is the Superman Easter egg that teases future DCU casting?
In the DCU movie, Lois Lane steps into the Hall of Justice while investigating the Hall of Justice. There, a mural can be seen that shows the Justice Society of America.
On X, podcaster Neil Vagg said they attended a showing of Superman that included a Q&A session with Gunn. According to Vagg, “Gunn mentioned the mural includes a famous actor in one of the roles. He didn’t specify who.”
This has led many to speculate that it could be Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate. Brosnan played Doctor Fate in 2022’s Black Adam, which was part of the now-defunct DCEU. While Black Adam wasn’t a huge hit at the box office, many fans did specifically praise Brosnan’s performance in the movie.
If this were to be true, there would likely have to be some sort of plot device that addresses Doctor Fate’s continuity change. This would be possible as Peacemaker Season 2, which premieres on HBO Max this coming August, will also address the DCEU and DCU timelines.
