Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have announced the Casper theatrical rerelease date for the upcoming limited screenings of 1995’s beloved horror comedy. During its original theatrical run, the movie earned a gross of $288 million at the box office.

“When they move into a drafty old mansion so that Dr. Harvey can exorcise the home’s otherworldly inhabitants, they meet a friendly but lonely young ghost named Casper, who’s just looking for a friend, and his outrageous uncles Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso,” reads the official synopsis.

When is Casper returning to theaters?

In honor of its 30th anniversary, Casper will officially heading back to theaters nationwide starting from October 3 until Halloween, October 31. Advance tickets are now on sale, and can be purchased here.

The movie was directed by Brad Silberling (A Series of Unfortunate Events, City of Angels) in his feature directorial debut. It was co-written by Sherri Stoner and Deanna Oliver, based on the iconic cartoon character created by Harvey Comics. The cast featured Bill Pullman (Independence Day) as Dr. Harvey, Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets) as Kat, Brad Garrett (Finding Nemo), Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), Eric Idle (Monty Python), Ben Stein (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) and Devon Sawa (Final Destination), with Malachi Pearson, Joe Nipote, Joe Alasky, and Garrett providing the respective voices of Casper, Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso.

Casper was produced by Colin Wilson, with Oscar-winning James Horner providing the movie’s score. It also included uncredited cameo appearances from Rodney Dangerfield, Mel Gibson, Dan Aykroyd and Clint Eastwood. Due to its success, it was followed by two direct-to-video prequels, 1997’s Casper: A Spirited Beginning and 1998’s Casper Meets Wendy.
