Tom Ellis’ upcoming series returned to discussion as CBS updated its midseason plans. The network outlined when the new FBI related project will join its schedule and confirmed its placement within the revised rollout. The announcement also indicated broader adjustments that shaped the timing of the show’s arrival.
CIA premieres on CBS in February
CBS confirmed CIA’s midseason release date as part of its 2025 to 2026 schedule announcement. The network placed the FBI spinoff on Monday, February 23 at 10 p.m., scheduled after FBI at 9 p.m (via Deadline). The title appears in the lineup alongside several new premieres and established returning programs.
CIA was originally intended for a fall debut before shifting to midseason. The change followed internal leadership updates. Warren Leight joined the production as showrunner, replacing David Hudgins, who was first attached to lead the series. CBS later confirmed that Leight exited the show. Michael Michele left the cast and entered recasting, and Eriq La Salle departed as director and executive producer.
CBS outlined the full structure for February 23. The network scheduled The Neighborhood for 8 p.m., DMV for 8.30 p.m., FBI for 9 p.m., and CIA for 10 p.m. ET. The slate includes additional adjustments. CBS moves Watson to Sundays at 10 p.m. beginning March 1. The network shifts Tracker to 9 p.m. on the same night. CBS will premiere Y Marshals at 8 p.m.
The network identified Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss among the cast members confirmed for CIA. CBS’s announcement also noted that FBI continues into its eighth season. Earlier franchise titles such as FBI Most Wanted and FBI International experienced cast departures and production changes over previous years.
CBS listed additional midseason premieres. The network will debut Harlan Coben’s Final Twist on Wednesday, January 7 at 10 p.m. CBS will premiere America’s Culinary Cup, hosted by Padma Lakshmi, on March 4 at 9.30 p.m. CBS will launch Survivor 50 on February 25 with a three hour premiere and will air a two week programming event that features encore episodes from earlier seasons beforehand.
